The Northern end of Lake Tahoe was first explored by a man named William Brewer in 1862. Brewer was the Field Supervisor for the Whitney Geological Survey that was commissioned by the state of California. The area made an impression on Brewer. The early surveyor wrote in his journal of the expedition "Beautiful as Lake Tahoe is from the south, it is yet more so from the north. This end will eventually become the most desirable spot for persons in pursuit of pleasure."
By 1884, the Northern end of Lake Tahoe was home to some of the earliest settlers in the region, many of whom were loggers. Over time, more and more residents made the Northern end of Lake Tahoe their home.
